Winter Break Camp: Flying Things
Monday, December 19-Friday, December 23, 2011, 9am – 4 pm
How do you keep curiosity alive for young children during winter break from school? The answer from the Exploratorium is "Winter Break Camp," a full week of daily discoveries and hands-on making fun for kids ages 7 to 10 years old. This year’s theme – Flying Things, will focus on investigating the physics of flight by exploring airplanes, rockets, parachutes, and then building things that fly.
Explorables: Science You Can Play With
Saturday, December 17, 2011, 11am – 2 pm
It’s child’s play at the Exploratorium’s new Explorables station, where activities focus on experimenting with everyday materials, discovery and toy-making – in other words, playing with science! Youngsters can take part in activities, such as discovering the secret colors in black ink, or drumming up their own "membrane-o-phones." These drop-in workshops mix classic activities with open-ended investigations, encouraging young experimenters to follow their hunches all the way to aha moments of insight.
