San Diego: Rancho Bernardo Inn
Kids Rule, Ghouls Drool Package

By Kathy Chin Leong

SocalSept13-2.jpgRancho Bernardo Inn is a hidden gem to most of us, but to locals in southern California, it is a prime paradise for families.  It is literally hidden in the Rancho Bernardo neighborhood of San Diego sequestered in the back of  a cul de sac.

Developed in the style of a Spanish hacienda, the Rancho Bernardo Inn turns 50 this year, and is a sprawling garden property with 287 guest rooms, an 18-hole golf course, spa, tennis, restaurants, and 3 swimming pools.  Rooms come equipped with luxury beds, wi-fi, flat screen televisions, and comfortable desks for working. Private patios look out into the gardens or golf course.

SocalSept13-1.jpgRight now, the most attractive aspect to parents is the Kids Rule, Ghouls Drool Package, priced at $199 per night.  Valid for one kid from age 4-14 and two adults, the package includes a welcome pumpkin filled with goodies, free all-you-can-eat meals and snacks at the hotel restaurant and cafe, and participate in an array of kid-friendly activities.

From now through October, families can jump in on this bargain. Children can go to the kids' club for cookie decorating, arts and crafts, and video games.  They also can make s'mores, hunt for treasure, and enjoy foosball, ping pong and swimming. A special plastic wrist band  gives kids access to free food all day long. Further, they can go to the cafe's candy counter and fill a bag to the brim with all their favorite treats.

SocalSept13-3.jpgFamilies with more than one child can pay an extra $29 per kid and get all the same perks. For a different kind of stay with all the bells and whistles, give Rancho Bernardo Inn a try next time you go to San Diego.
