Chans Pick China/Japan Favorities
(Sunnyvale dad Mike Chan tells us what his 3 kids liked most during their recent trip to China and Japan. Parents, take notes! – Editors).

TOP 7 of CHINA

·Bamboo rafting on the Yu Long River outside of Yangshuo.
·The “Impressions” outdoor water and light show in Yangshuo. A cast of hundreds performing on the Li River with the Karst Mountains as backdrop.
·Seeing the Beijing Acrobat show.
·Riding down from the top of the Mutianyu Section of the Great Wallin a European designed luge system.
·Shopping at Stanley Market in Hong Kong.
·Exploring the Night Market and Wangfujing Street in Beijing.
·The food, the food, the food…

  TOP 7 of JAPAN

· Walking across the intersection at Shibuya Station, the busiest intersection in the world with over 1,000 people crossing each light.
·Strolling the streets of Harajuku, in particular Takeshita Dori, where teen fashions are cutting edge if not downright bizarre. Michael Jackson would feel right at home.
·To get a feel for the old Tokyo, a visit to the Edo Museum in Ryogoku makes for a nice half day.
·Although some would say it’s too touristy, see the show at the Gion Corner Theatre in the Geisha District for an overview of Kyoto arts such as the tea ceremony, comic play, geisha / maiko, koto, ibebana, bunraku puppetry, and imperial court dance. The show lasts about an hour and costs around $20-25 / person.
·See a beautiful Kyoto temple and garden. There are over 2,000 to choose from so you have to be selective. We particularly liked Kyomizudera (where they filmed Memoirs of a Geisha ) and Nanzenji.
·Nijo Castle surprised us with some very scenic gardens as well
·The food, the food, the food…
